Nina Butkovich–Budden is Croatian born hair stylist with a passion for vintage hairdressing, make up and couture. Her extensive knowledge of individualistic and iconic looks ranging from 1900’s until today has given her the ability to create highly distinctive, original and spellbinding looks of the yesteryear.

The vision of glamour and ultimate femininity becomes reality within the walls of UK’s first and only vintage and retro specialised hair salon–”Nina’s Hair Parlour” in London on the arty Southbank.

For over a decade Nina has worked in the fashion, entertainment and burlesque industries recreating period looks based on her encyclopaedic knowledge of styles from the 1900’s. “ I do only pre–modern and post–modern I am not at all interested in boring high street fashion!” Nina said in her interview for BBC radio.. “If people like Galliano, Westwood, Pugh or Stephen Jones didn‘t exist world would be a sad, sad place“.

She is a period style consultant for the Young Vic Theatre and has worked on “The Member of the Wedding” by Carson McCullers, “Ma Vie En Rose” imaginatively directed play by Pete Harris and for the Big Brecht Festival in Señora Carrar’s Rifles, How much is your iron? and The Jewish Wife with Anastasia Hille.

Also, Nina has been contributing to some online fashion magazines, has her own column in a new French pin–up magazine “Origin’Elles” and has worked on fashion shows here and abroad.

Nina’s Hair Parlour supports some young international fashion design talent like Nicole Moan Ceramic Corsetry and “Bite My Style”label by Zoran Aragovic shown on Zagreb Fashion Week as his sponsor and head hair, make up and headwear artist..

Overall Nina’s Hair Parlour is a great success hugely recognized by the media (BBC 1 TV lunchtime news & the evening news feature, CHANNEL 4 “Richard and Judy show”, ZDF feature, (Germany), BBC radio London breakfast show, BBC 4 “Woman’s Hour”, BBC radio Bristol, The Guardian, The Sunday Times, The Vogue (FR), London Paper, First Magazine, Woman (Spain), Collezioni Accessori (IT), J Mag (Australia), Glamour(FR), Total;Spec, Papierdoll, Yours, Total Tattoo, Southwark News, Nude,The Daily Mail and worked on The Kylie Show (hair and make up) alongside celebrity hairstylist Danilo whose team she’ll be joining in may at Lifeball 2008 in Vienna.

The demand for the services of Nina’s Hair Parlour has now gone beyond borders of Great Britain. Her clients are coming from all over Europe to name but the few– France, Norway, Denmark, Germany and even Dubai! She gives one 2 one private lessons in Vintage Coiffure to the ladies who would like to upkeep their styles!

My greatest love is fashion design, and my favourite colour is diamond colour!

Same Teens was the brainchild of four fashion and music savvy underagers who would hang around manchesters trendy Northern Quarter complaining about how they were unable to attend any of Manchester's coolest indie club nights. These kids were oozing with style and were hot on the new music scene and couldn't understand why they weren't able to express themselves in the way they wanted to just due to a lack of an ID. After a bit of encouragement they did something about it and began their very own under 18s club night – which was a huge success and soon expanded into a small empire – gig promotion, DJing for the likes of Iggy and the Stooges, Tricky, Foals, Black Kids, Dizzee Rascal and Robots in Disguise, the premise of starting their own festival and their own online monthly fanzine which has included interviews with Glasvegas, Mystery Jets, Maccabees and we are Scientists to name a few. It was within this fanzine that 'A La Manchester', the fashion and style section for under 18s began.

A La Manchester is a way of young people who love fashion to get involved within the fashion industry without the need of a degree. We are now based online and provide numerous opportunities for people to get involved in our monthly fanzine doing things such as fashion writing, photography, styling, designing, modelling and style hunting.

At the Same Teens underage club nights we were seeing some of the most stylish people we had ever seen – people with a raw and passionate hunger for fashion and expressing themselves through how they dressed and we realised that we needed to showcase this! Other people around the country seem to be picking up on the trend of starting an underage clubnight, but noone, it seems has opened their eyes to how these kids look. We feel that music and fashion go hand in hand, and saw a perfect opportunity to get more young people doing what it is that they love.

At the moment, the small group of us at Same Teens as working as a non profit making organisation, and therefore do not have the means of paying for the fanzine to be printed, meaning it can only be read online – something we are working hard to change. As we grow at A La Manchester in particular, the main thing we want to achieve is more recognition for the kids who get involved with us. We would love to see them styling/writing/modelling for other top fashion magazines and their talent being seen and praised by the masses! As well as this, of course we would love an increase in the amount of readers of the XOX fanzine, and a growth in the Same Teens empire, starting next year with our own festival.

We have started something in a really small and relatively unheard of industry, and definitely faced people not taking us seriously. The whole underage thing has put up many barriers for us with regards to whether respected fashion organisations will get involved with us, but we have worked so, so hard to ensure that people have realised that although we are young, we are a group of very talented and business minded individuals. Additionally, on a more personal level, we have all faced the strain of combining the running of the business with our studies and exams, but we have all had the drive to work through it, as we have high hopes of what we can achieve.

As a business, we are actually very proud of how far we have come without a single £ of funding at all! The closest we have got is recently impressing Topshop and Urban Outfitters enough to use their clothes in a photoshoot we put together. We were told that it is very rare indeed for these companies to help out small independant businesses, but they both loved what we were all about and after seeing the fanzine they were all too happy to get involved, which resulted in a fashion spread Topshop HQ called 'incredible and extremely proffesional'.

We are a new and exciting concept in a world where in the past young people have been dismissed for their creative talents, due to just the fact that they aren't yet classed as adults. We are solely here to give these young people a chance to show everyone exactly what they are capable of! The fanzines themselves will speak a thousand words so please visit myspace.com/sameteensmanchester and have a look at the issues of XOX in the blogs, which even celebrities such as Erol Alkan and Owen Morris have subscribed to and commented that they love. We are desperate to get a chance to let more people know about the great things we are doing for underage people, and we feel that any opportunity to work with a new company would thoroughly benefit us as well as being a great and exciting project for anyone else involved!
