Bio/Skills: I began sewing, largely self–taught, in 2004. Since then I have completed the University of Rhode Island's Master Seamstress I program in May 2008 and am currently enrolled in the Master Seamstress II program, learning draping, advanced pattern drafting, and using a serger. I have experience in constructing many types of garments, particularly special occasion wear, and also period clothing, particularly of the Victorian era. I have extensive experience with corsetry. I also have some pattern drafting skills. At present I can copy most designs or ideas either by adapting an existing pattern or drafting a pattern from scratch.

My background in sewing is extensive. I learned to sew in junior high school in sewing class and read every book on the subject I could get my hands on. After high school, I took various classes at the Rhode Island School of Design at night. I opened a small alteration/dressmaking business in my town and had great success for ten years. During that time, I attended a class at the Master Seamstress Program at University of Rhode Island.

I presently do alterations, which includes everyday clothing, costumes, crafts, home furnishings and doll clothes. I have designed personal costumes for Civil War reenactments, King Richard’s Fair and Halloween. I own my own commercial and home sewing equipment.
