An internationally published fashion photographer based in Manhattan’s Fashion District.

Richard Warren was born in Houston Texas. His father was a newspaperman. At the age of fifteen Richard moved to the Pacific Northwest where after High School worked as a commercial fisherman in Alaska and also earned a degree in Graphic arts from Western Washington University. By the time he was twenty–one he had moved to New York and began assisting great photographers: Bill King, Helmut Newton, Denis Piel, Robert Mapplethorpe.

Warren was twenty–six when he had his first break while living in Milan; a 30 page Couture editorial in Italian Bazaar photographing Valentino, and other top name couture designers.

Work continued in Milan and Paris then onto Sydney Australia for Australian Vogue, Follow–Me, Dolly and Australian Harpers Bazaar. In 1990 Warren returned to New York and started a profitable career in fashion photography. The Fall of 2001 was a set back not only for New Yorkers but for the rest of the world.
During this period of reduced commercial work Warren immersed himself in the digital world and the result is a state–of–the art, 22–mega pixel digital studio in Manhattan’s Garment district. While still shooting traditional film on location, Warren has up–to–the minute knowledge of digital workflow from capture to post production with everything being available to clients ‘in–house’.

Richard Warren currently lives in New York with his wife, two children, a 150–foot English border, which he maintains, and an old Martin 12–string guitar, on which he plays Robert Johnson style classic Delta Blues.

Joao Carlos photography takes on the refreshing ability to incorporate pure unadulterated moments into tangible form. Having traveled and lived all over the world he is able to adapt to his surroundings and this is palpable in his storytelling.

As a photographer he connects with his subjects in turn creating beautiful, vivid imagery while expressing emotions and vulnerability in his art. Whether it be commercial, fashion, editorial, lifestyle or a plain ole snap shot you know that his ideas are original.
After discovering photography in the early nineties while studying fine arts, painting, and sculpture along with art history at Centro De Arte e Communicacao it became obvious that photography would end up being a life long passion.

His appreciation for the arts in all aspects is what continues to inspire and drive him while capturing the moments through his lens. Since then his work has been published in Numero, Jadore Magazine, Six Degrees ,Umbigo Magazine and Nstyle to name a few.
He has worked with Clients such as Nike, Avon ,Pfizer and manny others.

Joao Carlos is currently living and working in New York while still traveling back and forth to Portugal and Spain.

He has also been awarded the 2009 Hasselblad Masters Award

Carrie Schechter's free spirited nature has led her on many adventures with her camera in hand. As someone who pushes boundaries in both life and art, she has pushed the concept of photography to a level of hyperrealism. Her work expresses a fusion of seduction and innocence and has been described as beautiful, textural, sexy, exciting and haunting. Carrie creates a dynamic environment when she shoots encouraging everyone to let go of their inhibitions.

Carrie's work has appeared in international advertising campaigns, magazine editorials, posters, and album covers. She has won multiple awards leading her photography to be internationally recognized and featured in cities such as Dubai, Hong Kong, London, Paris, Barcelona, Los Angeles and New York.

"New York Painter"

(#3705)

Biography

Emily Thing is a freelance artist and abstract painter living and working in New York. Her paintings have been shown in galleries and juried shows throughout the New England Area and Hudson Valley Region. She’s had her work published in both national and local magazines including American Artist, and was featured in a two page spread in The Guide Magazine’s June 2005 issue.

Always deeply affected by her natural surroundings: rock formations, plants, animal shapes and their varying personalities inform her work. Drawing and painting since early childhood, she was chosen for a workshop for developing artists in grade school. After excelling in an Advanced Placement program in high school, she was awarded a partial scholarship to Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, where she earned her BFA. Further studies in painting and mixed media were completed at Cooper Union in New York City.

Freelancing for web design shops to make a living, Emily kept New York City as a home base from 1992 to 2000. During that time she traveled as much as time and money would allow throughout North America, Europe and Asia keeping sketchbooks of ideas for paintings. Discovering distant places is another major inspiration for her work, and her paintings often include shards of paper that she collects along the way.

In the fall of 2000, yearning for the quiet and sanity of nature on a full time basis, she moved into a little cabin on Ohayo Mountain in Woodstock, New York. Here she was able to recover from a debilitating illness that took her a frustrating 5 years to find a diagnosis for and left her bedridden for long stretches. It was a very difficult time in her life, when the only sources of relief were close friends, family and the free hours spent painting to continue her artistic development. Making art – of one kind or another – has always been a huge source of hope in dark times for Emily – and brought her salvation when traveling on the long road back to good health.

In 2008, she gleefully welcomed the arrival of a daughter, Liliana Isabel, and moved her studio into a spacious loft in an old warehouse building in historic Kingston, New York – her original hometown.

Artist Statement

Discovering landscapes or cityscapes during travel and being surrounded by nature at home have become some of the most engaging subjects for me as an artist. In recent paintings, my work is inspired by the tactility of place. The subject can range from the last bit of twilight forcing its way through the woods around my home, to the way personal items of another culture hang on a decaying wall. I’m drawn to found objects within these specific places which I then bring back to my studio to help me recreate a scene primarily from sense memory and intuition. My aim is to distill the strongest impression I had during the moment of experience into an abstract symbol or symbols representing, for me, the “whole”.

Rather than rendering form, the work is deliberately kept within the two–dimensional picture plane. Instead, my concern has been for mood and light qualities, surface texture, value in color contrasts, and for the materials themselves. I’m working with a variety of collage elements and oil paint on canvas or wood.
