Growing up as a tomboy, I was never very interested in playing with dolls or dressing up, and I certainly was NOT interested in being a princess. I could never understand my mother and sister's obsession with shoes, clothing, jewelry and make–up. I had a style all my own and it was...well...just that. All my own.
I can not recall at what point in my life things changed, but it seems to me it was as sudden as waking up one morning and being tired of wearing the same old–same old that was in my closet. I started out slowly, becoming interested in shoes, dresses and handbags. But not for myself, of course. I was interested in dressing up my clients (models0. I began to back away from traditional family portrait work and focus more on fashion photography. In a way, it was almost like playing with the dolls I had rejected as a young girl. Only, these dolls could walk and talk on their own! I also started to get very interested in being the MUA on all of my fashion shoots. With a background in painting, it was very exciting for me to use a NEW type of canvas (a model's face!).
Today, I am a registered small business owner who mainly shoots fashion and fashion related work. The Art of Sy Phelan was born, and I have found that, in shooting fashion photography, I have come to love all of the fashion elements...even for myself! I now have quite a collection of shoes in my closet! I can now understand and appreciate whatever it is that drove my mother and sisters to their own fashion obsession years ago.
The Art of Sy Phelan is available for fashion work via studio or location, custom built sets, accessory/product work (jewelry,shoes, etc.), with very reasonable rates. The Art of Sy Phelan offers creativity and a professional attitude with a side of fun!
