KNAF COUTURE
Kayda Nana Afriyie Frimpong of KNAF COUTURE graduated from college with a B.F.A. in fashion design and marketing, and is an extremely proficient up and coming fashion designer from Ghana, West Africa. Highly stylish, custom–made and original, KNAF COUTURE clothes are designed to accentuate the female figure and make you look twice.
Afriyie of KNAF COUTURE derives much of her inspiration from her home country, its culture and its textiles. She is also inspired by fashion greats like Jean Paul Gaultier, Coco Chanel, Dolce and Gabbana, John Galliano and Anna Sui. Afriyie counts her work as an intern for Anna Sui, as well as her participation in the designer’s Spring ’05 showing at New York Fashion Week as some of the highlights of her career.
Although relatively new, KNAF COUTURE has already garnered a following and has been featured in Florida runway shows such as the No Limit Fashion Show as well as DC Fashion week 2006 and 2007.She was the featured designer at the World Bank Group, fair trade fashion show in Washington DC, as well as the Ghana’s 50th Anniversary Fashion Show at the Ghanaian Embassy in Washington, DC. Her collections have also been showcased on the ABC Nightly News and in newspapers such as the Tampa Tribune, The Washington Post, The express, Washington DC, and the New Ghanaian, Virginia.
Long–term plans include setting up workshops in Ghana, to make use of the local talent, while creating jobs for some of the people who need them the most, especially unemployed women. It is her vibrant hope to contribute to the development of not only KNAF COUTURE, but the Ghanaian fashion industry and economy as a whole. It is her ultimate goal to put Ghana on the fashion map.
It is this ensemble of inspiration, ambition, experience and raw talent that make KNAF COUTURE clothes such an eclectic blend of genres, cultures and trends. KNAF COUTURE succeeds in finding that very elusive but much sought–after place where the “distinctively swanky” and the “wearable” come together.
