I am Jinxy DV–8, the designer. I design and create affordable one of a kind hand sewn and hand crafted works of art.

I’ve been designing and creating ever since I was 10 years old when I was first taught how to sew. I come from a long line of creative and artistic DIY junkies. Growing up, my mother could put Martha Stewart to shame with her DIY home décor and accents. At every project she showed me how you can take simple household items and make decorations that would make you the envy of everyone. She was also a seamstress on the side and tailored everything from dresses to full wardrobe for a wedding party. My grandfather, a retired carpenter, spends his spare time replicating woodwork items and country crafts. He now spends his retired days selling his brilliant crafts in Fredricksburg, Texas.

As a tween, I was dissatisfied with the clothing that my mother chose for me, as well as what was offered at the malls. So I took my sewing machine, my sewing kit, patches and accessories and alter my whole closet to suitable clothes I love to wear. As a teenager, after moving to Houston with nothing but the clothes on my back, I got a job next door for $15 a day. I learned then to budget my money and the thrift store became my best friend. I turned clothes thrown away by others into very cheap fashionable works of art! After marriage and children, my fashion sense never faded away, but after a divorce and a resurgence of my identity, I decided to create again.

During the past year my designs have been featured at a charity fashion show, a Halloween costume show at Opera House and most recently I have been exclusively hired to work on a woman’s Alice in Wonderland themed–wedding that will take place in October 2008. Kayla Swann (born September 1, 1979) commonly known as Kayla is an aspiring full figured model and tote/handbag designer. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, she was first exposed to modeling when her mother Sylvia Swann, a university professor and minister, enrolled her in Barbizon School of Modeling at age 12. Kayla since have always dreamed of becoming a famous model. Her role models include Beyonce Knowles, Tina Knowles Tyra Banks and Oprah Winfrey. Kayla will soon launch a tote/handbag line Top Notch Chic coming soon that was aspired by her love for fashion and new found talent of sewing tote–bags.

It's hard to contain yourself from the world around you. So I started Obsession for Tip–Taps to free myself and release my fetish. Hello I'm Cher–Ron Thicklin, Founder and CEO of Obsession's. As a child I began creating arts and crafts with my mother we made everything from soda bottle magnets to cabbage patch dolls that where taller than I was. Doing this sparked my interest in turning nothing into something.

As a Pastors daughter and having a grandmother that lived in Dillard's and Macy's. I had no other choice but to become a fashionista. As a teenager when I could choose my own clothes I found myself having a strong attachment for shoes.

For the past 7 years I've been designing shoes. And I finally decided to step out on faith and design my own shoe line. Adding a sex appeal that a woman or man can't resist it's finally here. Tip–Taps Collection will debut in the Fall of 2009. I can't wait to give what people are waiting to have.

For clubbing downtown or a date night, today's young man needs a couple of great shirts in his wardrobe that make a statement. An Austin man is helping men of his generation do just that with uniquely stylish designs.

Keya Efatpanah is a 28–year–old with a flare for unique apparel. Three years ago, he noticed the wardrobes of other men his age looked a little too alike.

"A lot of guys and friends downtown, they were all wearing the same shirts. Apparently, buying and shopping the same brands from different stores even," Efatpanah said.

That's because there were few options. Efatpanah set out to offer younger men, like his friends, more of a selection on the shirt front. He combined his love of cultures with a background in art and made shirts his canvas. The line is called Prestij Fashions.


"I have a background in art and Persian calligraphy. I've always been inspired by different cultures, different art," Efatpanah said.

One shirt in the line is called the Dragon. It has a dragon design on it.

"What's so unique about it, is it has the silk screening in the background. You have the velvet material. It feels very nice," Efatpanah said.

The back of the shirt is a great conversation starter because it has a saying written on it.

"People always ask you, 'What does it say on the back of your shirt?' I don't know! Hmm," Efatpanah said.


Another shirt in the line is completely embroidered on the back.

"We're not constraining ourself to a portion or anything. I don't think there's any reason to stop the design anywhere," he said.

One shirt has silkscreen patch work on the sleeve. "A lot of work goes into the production of each shirt," Efatpanah said.

Efatpanah has more than 20 shirts in the line and said he's working on about five more at present. He said he has a lot a design ideas.

The shirts are mostly made of cotton but some contain a little Lycra to give the shirts a great feel.


From his experience wearing his own designs, Efatpanah's come to know today's young man cares as much about what he's wearing as women do.

"I think a nice woven shirt can express your personality, it can express a lot about you. Fashion can be very fun, very fun," Efatpanah said.

He started designing clothes as a hobby at the age of 16, and began featuring them in fashion shows in 1982. Due to the increase volume of custom work for his individual clients. Terry opened his own company. It’s My Turn (IMT) Designs four years later. His collection ranges from day wear, to glamorous one–of–a–kind evening gowns and unique men’s wear.

During this period he also toured with the Paul Mitchell Hair Care Shows throughout the country, and created designs for FAME Dancers from the popular Television show. What he thought was a hobby turned into a lucrative career that literally took him by surprise.

In 1990 the Andre Terrry teamed with Melinda Ballard, former publicist for designers Oscar de la Renta and Ralph Lauren. He eventually opened a custom boutique in downtown Austin, Texas. As sales soared, Terry increased his staff and moved his operation to Dallas, Texas. He began selling his designs to stores and boutiques throughout the country, including the popular African artifacts and clothing store African Imports, located in Dallas, Houston, and Fort Worth, Texas
