(#1)   Stephanie Dong

During four years at the Art Institute of Portland, Stephanie's passion for designing evening and bridal wear was discovered. She developed her love to design beautiful evening and bridal wear through the experience of designing her first dress for a bride. Stephanie seeks to inspire and help women to find their own personal expression of style. Her designs exemplify the freedom of expression, giving women a chance to stand out to feel unique and beautiful in their own form.

Stephanie combines her visionary and creative expression to create a fresh, modern approach to dressing today's women. Her modern yet elegant designs emphasize her philosophy that one must evolve with the footsteps of today's changing times. Her approach is to design a modern silhouette using luxurious fabric, with the direction that it should accentuates a women's finest feature.

As an avid reader of historical fact and fiction, I get my current inspiration from Middle Eastern, African, Celtic cultures and their stories. My formal training (a degree in clothing design) causes me to put motifs, design and color from these cultures into functional form fibre art for contemporary use....of course, a little fantasy never hurts! The silkscreen process gives me opportunity to bring collected ancient design and mix it into a "world" statement.

My "process"? I often recycle,..... using collected fabrics and other supplies in an unexpected way. (A set of quirky buttons may wait 3 years before finding its perfect fit on a cozy tribal jacket.) I form islands of color and motifs "til something says, "I'm complete." Folks observe my work with puzzlement, then delight, enjoying the cross cultural effect of my fibre collage.

My statement for global harmony...

My work can be found at art fairs, juried shows and in the studio. I do custom clothing –– often a great idea a client brings me, her/his need for something unusual... or simple stuff like hemming a vintage skirt. I do prototype design for small business. I teach "Recycle Your Wardrobe" workshops at Portland Community College and at my studio. Through the school year I teach a variety of fibre art workshops for children at Grace Institute in NE Portland. During the summer I run the fibre art studio at Grace Art Camp under a tent in a lovely courtyard with a flock of busy, budding artists... where we "swim" in cultural fibre and color.

Most of the work I do is through referral. Clients approach me having been told, "Ask Jude. She'll figure it out." This has given me amazing creative opportunities.

I'm a happy member of the casual, coffee loving Beaumont/Wilshire Artspace artist's organization and a 24 year member of Local 14, the woman's art organization to which I owe my deepest loyalty.

Please view my website for more pics of my work, show and class schedules!

Warm Wishes!
Jude

Monkey Sew, Monkey Do is a Portland based clothing company specializing in hand made, one–of–a–kind creations fashioned from recycled and environmentally friendly materials.

With so many clothing companies out there, it's hard for a consumer to know just what they are getting, where it comes from, and who made it. At Monkey Sew, Monkey Do, we get the chance to be recognized for our ingenuity and craftsmanship, and people who purchase our products know that they have directly supported a small, one–of–a–kind operation of skilled artisans who truly care and are dedicated to creating with consciousness.

Reif is the creative voice of Lindsey Reif, a self–taught seamstress and designer based in Portland, Oregon. Her thoughtfully designed clothing line combines comfort, style and craftsmanship. Each garment is developed and sewn in house using natural fabrics and simple color schemes. An avid collector of vintage clothing, Lindsey takes inspiration from the little details found in those garments which are often bypassed in the age of mass–produced clothing.

The Reif Haus' first collection is set to be released in August for fall/winter 08.

Lindsey is also available for custom garments.

I am a new fashion designer, with only a couple of collections to my resume. I worked for many years in other areas of fashion, and with the objective that I would eventually design my own line. I currently have a business partner who oversees all the business aspect, and I am the creative part. I am interested in learning more about design, etc. I have no formal traning in fashion design ( NO! I didn't go to school for it). I am currently looking for a great seamstress/patternmaker to work with me. I usually have three collections per year Spring/Summer, Fall/Winter, and Resort.
If you have any questions or comments about what I do. Please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

E. DLF

Women need clothes that make them feel and look good. That is what we are Lucia Apparel are here to provide. Our mission is to promote confidence in women by providing them with stylish and comfortable clothing for their daily endeavors; for it is fashion that is our slave and never the other way around. We achieve this by following our own three laws of design:

figure flattering, comfortable fit
style without trend
high quality, beautiful fabrics
Lucia Apparel was established in 2005 here in Portland by designer Sarah Wallace. The line was created out of a love for fun clothes and luxurious fabrics. As well as a need for comfortable clothes that also look good and feel good on. Combining both comfort and style can be a daunting task, and we have taken the challenge head on.

We also believe in supporting our local economy. Therefore, Lucia Apparel is designed and handmade here in Portland, Oregon. Our flagship store is also located in Portland, in the Pearl District. Come and stop by to see our fabulous collection in person. Whatever occasion it is you are shopping for, we would love to help you find that perfect outfit. In addition to the Lucia line you will find a variety of other fun items.

As a Portland base company we are inspired by a unique blend of art, music, fashion and the many distinct individuals that reside in this unique city. There is a consistent flow of nonconformity beliefs which results in creative and original ways of self expression. We at Dimitri unknowingly did the same, by the time the dust settled we could see we had created something completely original and bigger than we had originally planned. Our hard work, creative employees, and a common strive for perfection has resulted in what you now see; a unique blend of vintage art, emo–rock, high fashion, and distinct individuals who wear our clothes.
