The Beginning:
STARTRELLE originally from Chicago, came to Los Angeles in 1970 with a God–given talent, faith and a dream at a very young age. She is a fourth generation from a sewing family where her mother taught her and purchased her first real sewing machine at a very early age! Her great–grandmother, being far advanced for her time, would make patterns from scratch and the end results were outstanding. Her maternal grandfather’s many siblings made a majority of their clothing during the Depression Era, often making their own underwear. One could say that designing and creating are definitely in the genes!


The Formative Years:
Startrelle’s skills were often in high demand for her creative custom design clothing and illustrations of famous celebrities for her peers. Those illustrations, by the way, garnered her as the recipient of Most Artistic in the Fairfax High School Class Favorites Awards. After graduating form high school, she attended LA Trade Tech College for one year where she gained the necessary skills in Pattern Making and Fashion Illustration. In fact, Startrelle excelled so she could have taught the class herself! The following year she attended the prestigious Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM), where she really flourished and received very high remarks.

The Growth Years:
With a GPA of 3.75 from FIDM, Startrelle went on and gained much work experience in Fashion Retail and Merchandising at the legendary Bullocks Wilshire, where she started as a floater and later advanced her way to Assistant Manager at Bullocks Woman, a Plus Size division of Bullocks’ now Macy’s. Realizing that she could go only so far with the company, she moved on to doing Freelance Custom Made–to–Order Design work for celebrities such as LisaRaye (All Of Us, Players Club), Kim Wayans (In Living Color, Juwanna Mann) and Kym Whitley (Oh Drama!, Next Friday) and private clients as well. Startrelle has also brought her styling skills on the sets of music videos for N*SYNC, Nothing To Prove and Chicago rapper Ms. Toi; and TV projects for Sanford & Son and Amen.

The Present:
Startrelle is in high demand with several lucrative projects going for her that’s guaranteed to be “off the chain!” Moreover, Startrelle has proven once again that this Fashion Diva is a force to be reckoned with!

I love to knit and sew ANYTHING! I recently worked with Jason Alper, the costumer for Sacha Baron Cohen, and knitted the yellow knitted lederhosen and pink knitted naked bodysuit worn in the movie BRUNO and worn at the Paris and Berlin premieres – I was thrilled that the "knitterhosen", to quote a fellow costumer, were seen on the many different posters, world wide. Currently, projects include sewing for MATRUSKA'S, a clothing store in Silverlake, California and MARCO MARCO'S, a costumer for music videos and concerts, in Hollywood, California. His clients include Fergie, The Black Eye Peas and L'il Wayne.

Also, I recently made Andrea Cansler, who plays Bettie Page, in the interactive theatre production "Inside Private Lives" a pair of belly dancing pants and a dress for her performance.

Olivia D'Abo will also wear one of my knitted tops in her upcoming movie "Sweet Lorraine."

I will also be collaborating with Charles Marder, owner of MiAlma Collective, in Silverlake, California, knitting lampshades for his collection.

My own creations might be mixed with fabric and trim. I am not so interested in the somewhat vulgar FAST fashion that is rampant. I like clothes that are timeless and have a shelf life of more than a month.

I also have a mission to USE all the yarn I bought too much of in all my years of knitting – my eco sustainable contribution!

I believe I am uniquely talented and creative in the field of knitting, with an excellent eye for composition and have elegant taste and style. I also am a very good seamstress.

Having had years of experience creating, producing and marketing my own line of knitwear makes me hard working, self motivated, and reliable.

Also I am familiar with the aspects of consumer business management, web site sales operations, business software and photography.

In 2007, I opened my own studio after returning to my passion of sewing, fashion and design. I can do all aspects of design and seamstress work, from alterations, remaking vintage clothing and basic sewing to designing one–of–a–kind garments. I am currently designing a line of handbags as well as working on samples and prototypes of garments for other designers. I also do embroidery, needlepoint, beading, knitting and crochet.

My main focus are cocktail/bridal dresses will love to work for a company or designer. Also designs casual/ RTW. My style can be describe as classy chic for cocktail dresses I tend to be inspired by nature and greek fashion(goddess looking gowns) and some with an edgy touch. For the casual clothing I tend to design classy chic but more vintage/edgy chic style.
