Anne has been machine
knitting since 1980, and hand knitting
and sewing since she was 5 years old. She has sold her clothing
in a range of
settings over the years. When first starting out, she would place items
on
consignment and sold at craft fairs.
Then she
moved on to using representatives and showrooms in Los Angeles
and the western states. Also, she began showing at the Pacific
Designer Collection
Wholesale Shows in New York, where boutique
buyers from the U.S. and England would
attend.
She currently works with knitting stores in
Los Angeles
where she finishes knit garments for clients, teaches knitting
and design and
most recently made some garments for a movie being released in June
2009.
She is also launching some of her designs in
pattern
instructions format and just this week has been asked to collaborate with
another knit designer on a new book to be published in
June.
Anne strives to use
eco-friendly and sustainable practices in all of her
designs. She has a vision to blend fashion, functionality and conscience
into
products that will be treasured for many years. Part
of this vision involves a
concept that Anne calls "Santosa".
Santosa
is a response to concerns about
waste in the fashion industry due to over consumption of fibers used to
make
clothing. The Santosa Mission involves the use of surplus yarns
that might
otherwise go to waste. Often this results in limited editions of
designs. To
learn more about Santosa, visit Anne's
site, and if you are
interested in incorporating the Santosa concept into your own work,
please
contact Anne.
Recently, Anne's Fashions.org profile
helped her get a new
client - an attendee at the Golden Globes needed a
cummerbund and tie at the
last minute. His stylist had discovered Fashions.org, so she went to the
site in
search of a local designer. She found Anne, who was able to save
the day!
--- Anne's work is available through
her website
www.arcfashion.com, and she also
sells at the Santa Monica Antique and Collectible Market, on the
1st and
4th Sundays of each month. She is available for design
consultation for those
who want to include knits in their
collections.
